We have been raising Targhees since 1986. Lambing is mid to late May so ewes with lambs can go directly to grass pasture. Due to last year’s drought, our lambs were weaned and put in our home feedlot at an average of 74 days of age. They were fed chopped hay, barley, and peas at the time. Replacements were chosen from the feedlot lambs after rain provided grazing in late September. We select primarily for fine, soft wool. The 2018 Targhee flock wool clip was 20.2 micron and 58% yield (per Yocom McColl). We also stress conformation and structure.
